Case Competitions

Four SCOPE members represented our organization in the 2024 Global Sustainability Supply Chain Case Competition, competing against 80 teams from 18 countries. They achieved outstanding success as global winners, earning the Gold Award for the Best Sustainable Solution. In recognition of this achievement, the team was invited to Geneva to receive their award at the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations 2025 Headquarters Meeting. Additionally, they were honored with the opportunity to lead a workshop for the United Nations, contributing to the advancement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals by fostering young talent and promoting sustainability within the logistics and transportation sector.

Several members of the SCOPE Leadership Team competed in the 4Flow Case Competition under the team name “Smooth Operators.” They traveled to Michigan to present their strategy and achieved first place by delivering an innovative and sustainable supply chain solution.

Four members of SCOPE represented the organization in the Annual EY Supply Chain Case Competition in Spring 2025. Competing against a strong field of teams, they earned a top placement and gained valuable insights into advanced supply chain strategies and problem-solving techniques.

Yana Patel: Lockheed Martin

"This summer, I’m interning at Lockheed Martin within the Global Supply Chain organization, supporting the Subcontract Administrator team in Fort Worth, Texas. My work spans across multiple aircraft platforms—including the F-35, C-130, F-16, F-22, and other classified programs. As a Buying Intern, I focus primarily on the pre-award side of contracts, contributing to supplier proposals, price analysis, and negotiations, while also supporting post-award activities such as data management within SAP and day-to-day subcontract administration. I’ve also had the opportunity to collaborate with senior leadership on building and refining key performance metrics that influence supplier engagement and long-term strategic planning. I’ll be continuing in a part-time capacity during the academic year and plan to transition into a full-time role upon graduation."

"During my internship at 4flow, I gained hands-on experience supporting both client-facing engagements and internal development initiatives across transportation and supply chain optimization projects. On the client side, I contributed to several impactful deliverables. I helped develop a final steering committee presentation for a production planning system implementation using Kinaxis for a leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer. I also conducted a current-state assessment, highlighting key process exceptions and operational pain points for a global roll-on/roll-off (RO-RO) transportation client. Internally, I worked within the Transport and Network Design practice to build tools that support ongoing project work. This included designing a parcel rating tool that accurately prices shipments for use in transport optimization, as well as creating an LTL approximation model to estimate freight costs and improve shipment rerating methodologies. Additionally, I supported business development efforts by creating case studies, aggregating data from past projects into a searchable database, and drafting blog content on the applications of AI in warehouse intralogistics."

Mason Stone: 4flow

Rowan Block: Wabtec

"During my Summer 2025 internship with Wabtec Corporation, I worked as an Engineering Project Specialist focused on driving operational efficiency through Lean initiatives and data-driven process improvements. One of my key projects involved designing a new manufacturing cell layout to support variable takt times, which improved flow and minimized waste and inventory. I also contributed to continuous improvement efforts by supporting 5S audits, standardizing work processes, and creating performance dashboards using Excel and Power BI to monitor KPIs and support plant-wide visibility."

Ashley Makovsky: International Paper

"During my internship at international paper I was on the energy and chemical procurement team where I was involved in a myriad of projects. I conducted financial risk analysis on various suppliers, worked across facilities to create chemical storage tank inventory tracking on PI Vision/power BI to increase visibility and improve communications of disruptions to suppliers, and identified and recommended to executives an 84% reduction in overhead engagement spend, leaning out over 20 million in unnecessary expenditures. My favorite project was creating and executing a multi-million dollar renewable energy sale to my supplier, reducing scope 2 and 3 emissions for my team and supplier."

Lucas Bruns: Northrop Grumman

"This summer I have worked on completing Commercial Item Determination packages for high profile parts, forecasted multi million dollar program inventory being received, completed daily reports using SAP and excel. I also was able to tour the production facilities and see the products being built."

Brandon Bonner: Comcast

"This summer I’ve been working with the materials planning team at Comcast. My job has been to develop a process to obtain specific information relating to each of our 20,000 part numbers. Then I am working with the data team on validating this information and figuring out the best way to enter this information into our EOQ (economic order quantity) modeling software. I am also working with the regional teams to cut down on the amount of amount of “expedited” orders coming into our materials hubs."
